Talk: What rights do victims of trafficking for labor exploitation have?

When & where: Thursday, December 15, 2022, 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. at Casa d' Italia (Bühlstrasse 57, Bern).

In Switzerland, many people work under precarious conditions, especially in the gastronomy, construction and agricultural industries, as well as in private households (so-called 24/7 - care).

If violations of labor law provisions are discovered during labor inspections, persons who do not have a valid residence permit must leave Switzerland immediately.

This happens despite the fact that some of these people were actually victims of human trafficking for the purpose of labor exploitation and therefore they should not be punished on the grounds of "illegal" residence. They are also entitled to victim assistance benefits, such as funding for legal counsel and access to shelter and medical care. They also have the right to a short-term residence permit.

In order to acquire knowledge on this topic, we from the FAU Mitte have invited an expert from plateforme Traite - Platform against Human Trafficking, who will look at the following questions with us, among others:

What is human trafficking for labor exploitation? How can you recognize it? What rights does a person have once they have been identified as a victim? What are the difficulties in implementing the rights?
